Ptarmigan Capital Ltd Announces Three Distinguished Leaders to Join its Advisory Board

Ptarmigan Capital is delighted to announce that Lord Charles Hemphill, Sir Laurie Magnus CBE, and Orlando Fraser CBE KC have joined its Advisory Board to provide strategic guidance and offer their industry expertise to the firm.


These appointments bring together decades of experience spanning institutional investment management, capital markets, legal practice, and public and charitable sector leadership.


Lord Charles Hemphill


Lord Hemphill brings over 40 years of experience in institutional asset management, family office advisory, and fiduciary oversight. He has held senior roles including Managing Director at Deutsche Asset Management, Partner and CEO at Spencer House Capital Management, and Director at Waverton Investment Management.


Throughout his career, he has managed global equity portfolios and advised both institutional and private clients on long-term investment strategy, asset allocation and capital preservation. He now focuses on board and trustee roles, where he contributes extensive expertise in investment governance, endowment management, and stewardship of long-term capital across charities, educational institutions, and private estates.


Sir Laurie Magnus CBE


Sir Laurie brings more than 45 years of experience across the commercial, charity, and public sectors, with a distinguished career in investment banking specialising in capital raising, mergers and acquisitions. He has held senior leadership positions at major financial institutions and currently serves as a senior adviser at Evercore and Chair of The City of London Investment Trust.


His extensive public and charitable service includes nearly three decades of involvement with organisations such as the National Trust and English Heritage. Sir Laurie served as Chair of Historic England from 2013 to 2023 and has been the Independent Adviser to the Prime Minister on Ministerial Standards since December 2022, initially appointed by Rishi Sunak and subsequently confirmed by Sir Keir Starmer.


Orlando Fraser CBE KC


Orlando is a leading commercial barrister with nearly 30 years of practice at 4 Stone Buildings. Appointed King’s Counsel in 2014, he has developed a strong reputation in complex commercial matters alongside a significant contribution to the charitable and voluntary sector.


He previously served as a board member of the Charity Commission from 2013 to 2017 and returned as Chairman from 2022 to 2025. His broader public service has included roles on the Civil Justice Council and the National Council for Voluntary Organisations’ Advisory Council.
